May 14, 2025, General Meeting Minutes

PRESIDENT – Steve Sharkey, (1st VICE PRESIDENT – Joseph Keber excused,)

2nd VICE PRESIDENT– Pat Trombetta, TREASURER – Joseph Cafaro,

SECRETARY – Joseph Onuska

 

Steve Sharkey called the general meeting of the WTSBC to order at the Woodbridge Community Center at 1:36 PM, with an attendance of fifty-one active members, which is a quorum. Attendance sheet attached.

Pledge of Allegiance: - Lou Algaze Led the pledge to the flag.

A moment of silence in remembrance of all our deceased members.

Officer Roll Call: Joseph Onuska - All Officers are present except for Joe Keber.

Secretary’s Report: Joe O.: Steve Sharkey made a request for a motion to dispense with the reading of the minutes. A motion made by Nina Blackwell, seconded by Ed Galarza, and approved unanimously.

Treasurer's Report: - Joe Cafaro reported there is $3,224.99 in the account. Report Attached - Steve S. acknowledged Jerry Granato Jr. for stepping up and sponsoring the newly established Jerry Granato Sr. Memorial Tournament which will replace the Zirpolo tournament which ran for 18 years.

President's Report: Steve welcomed the members and announced the Birthday and Anniversary lists for May. We currently have ninety-two active and eleven inactive members. Room attendance for April averaged 30-31 on weekdays and fifteen on weekends. Please sign out when leaving the billiards room, Bob Kazimir stated that it is “very important” to sign out, if there is a fire and you did not sign out the fire department will send someone into the building risking their life to try and find you. We have a full calendar of events please  take advantage of all the events the club provides.

Committee Updates:

Membership/Orientation - Joe Keber - Steve Sharkey stated that there are eight applicants on the waiting list, two of which we will interview later this month. There are currently six members on probation. The club welcomed two new members, Russel Kowal  and Carl Muench.

Fellowship – John Borkowski: No Report.

Maintenance/Supplies – Steve Jimenez & Tom McHale: No Report. Steve Sharkey announced that after 16 years Lou Algaze has retired from room maintenance and that Tom McHale will be taking his place.

Water/Soda - Angel Rodriguez & Peter Aleo No Report.

 

Tournaments/Events

Tournament Committee: Wayne Collins announced that the Jerry Granato Sr. Memorial tournament is scheduled from June 9 till June 25. All games are scheduled to start at 9:00am. Sign-up sheets are in the room and will be collected on June 6th.

9-Ball Season 11 Joe Keber: The Rack n Rollers remain three points ahead of the Predators in first place. The Rack Pack has closed the gap on first place, and is only 4 points out. Chalk-n-Awe dominated the Sharks today 13-2. Looks like it is going down to the wire with 4 weeks to go. 

Triple Play 5/21/25: Joe O -The sheets will be collected on May 15th, And Joe K will sort out the players into the three teams that will compete on the 21st.

Doubles Tournament – August 20th – Joe O The doubles tournament will

be a round robin format. Teams can sign up together or as singles that will be pared before the tournament starts as equally as possible. Two tier ones cannot play together; any other combination will be allowed. As with the Member Relative tournament the first round will be “first to two” then single elimination till the last round which will be two out of three to finish the match. There is a  possibility of increasing the occurrences of doubles tournaments to three a year.

League matches. Lou Algaze / Ron Blackwell: Lou Algaze announced that the Warriors took second place in the CJSBL and took a picture with the team holding the plaque.

Hospitality - Christina Malangone & Ed Vasquez: Steve thanked the committee for providing the snacks for the meeting and special thanks to Christina and John Borkowski’s wife who both baked for the meeting.

CPR/AED – Wayne Collins: No Report.

Public Relations: Pat Trombetta said that the 19th annual Senior Olympics will be on September 5th 6th and 7th the deadline to sign up for the Senior Olympics is on August 22. Last year there were four hundred people who signed up for pickleball and already there are two hundred who signed up this year. The mayor installed twenty-four pickleball courts in the town, twelve in Fords Park and twelve in Woodbridge. Pat is attempting to have the room next to our billiards room available for people to wait for their turn to play and have coffee and snacks. He is also trying to have a video feed from our room so the waiting players can watch the action. - Pat also mentioned that the WTSBC was invited to a bar-b-que on Sunday June 1st sponsored by the Woodbridge Fire department at the Woodbridge Fire House located on School Street from 12:00pm till 2:30pm.

Picnic – Joe Cafaro mentioned that the club picnic is scheduled for September 11. There was a discussion as to whether the date is appropriate for a picnic and of the availability of the park . We would recognize the 9-11 event during the day, and more research is being done. We should have an answers by our next meeting. There will be games door prizes and a raffle.

Audit – Ellen Wortman and Phil Degliomini: No Report.

Bylaws – Wayne Collins: No Report.

Ethics – Wayne Collins: No Report.

Captains – Ron Blackwell: No Report.

Website – Ron Blackwell: No Report. A committee is being formed to design a new website.

Club Apparel – Rob Jenkins Johanna Calamusa, Pat Murphy: No Report. A catalog is upstairs if anyone needs to order any clothing.

         Motion to Adjourn was made by Bob Kazimir and seconded by John Borkowski at 2:24 p.m. and approved unanimously.
